Our History
IJF Australia has over 55 years of manufacturing and project management experience with a strong family focus. Our history is one of success, growth and community involvement and we look forward to maintaining a truly sustainable quality Australian organisation in the modern age.
1964 IJF Australia was established by brothers Ross and Reg Monteleone in Rosewater. The company originally had only three employees and focussed on domestic products.
1966 The company grew to include family members Geoff, Murray and Ken Monteleone, and their cousin Ross Giorgio.
1967 The business was incorporated as Interior Joinery and Furniture Pty Ltd.
1969 The company relocated to Holden Hill, becoming the leading domestic joinery manufacturer in South Australia.
1975 The company established Australia’s first modular furniture system.
1987 The company focus was directed to the national commercial contract market and quickly outgrew its Holden Hill facility.
1989 The manufacturing hub and headquarters moved to Kilburn. Here IJF developed its reputation as one of the nation’s leading furniture and fit-out contractors, specialising in apartment, commercial and hospitality projects, with a client list boasting the biggest names in the Australian construction industry.
2001 The company was incorporated as IJF Australia Pty Ltd.
2006 IJF Australia acquired a manufacturing plant in Virginia, Queensland to accommodate for growth in the areas of South East Queensland and NSW.
2009 IJF Australia moved to its current headquarters in Wingfield. This new facility was designed to meet our changing economic and client needs in a more internationally competitive market.
2016 IJF Australia reconsolidated all manufacturing plants into one at their Adelaide headquarters, with upgraded machinery and additional staff.
2018 IJF Australia signed a strategic exclusive partnership with Zbom Cabinets, one of China’s largest furniture manufacturers. Zbom, a company with close to 20,000 employees, 2,000 showrooms and over 350,000 square metres of manufacturing, will provide IJF Australia with the facilities required to grow and expand into the Australian market.
