Ascot Vale Special School caters for the educational, social and emotional needs for over 100 primary and secondary students with mild disabilities from all over Melbourne. Some travel for over two hours to get to school. The school’s programs are designed to maximise individual student’s self-esteem and independence to enhance post-school life.
The school receives minimum funding and therefore when the need arose last year to update the 1980’s facilities, our good friends at Probuild Constructions undertook to upgrade 4 main areas within the school, a new sandpit, sensory garden and BBQ area, an outdoor classroom with integrated white board, a storage box seating area and IJF was asked to assist with the overhaul of multi-purpose room with additional integrated storage.
The work involved modifying the existing open shelving and extending the unit along the full length of the back wall including installing lockable doors. The end result was a very usable additional learning room.
Under the Adelaide coordination of Managing Director Ross Giorgio, Site Supervision by Matt Dolman and the IJF Site Team, the work was completed in November, in time for the unveiling early in December.
IJF was very pleased to contribute its time and resources at no charge to the Staff and Students and to assist Probuild in this very worthwhile project.
